Rhonda Small is the best candidate for Albert Park

Rhonda was here doing the hard yards for this community when other candidates were absent. She has earned our trust.

Rhonda is a long term Port Phillip resident who has never been a member of a political party. She worked with local parents to save our childcare centres and then spoke up to keep Council delivering in-home aged care.

Rhonda cares about our whole community, advocating more support for renters and affordable housing, libraries, the arts, sports and open spaces for all. A champion of local climate action, she believes Council and community must work together for a sustainable future.

Rhonda has long opposed over-development and stood up for protection of urban heritage.

We need a better Council. We need Rhonda Small.

Testimonials

Tim Costello AO, Former CEO World Vision, former Mayor City of St Kilda
Rhonda would be a terrific councillor, bringing a depth of knowledge and wisdom with her professional experience as a leading public health researcher and as a formidable advocate for and contributor to the local community over many years. Albert Park ward needs her independence, warmth and humanity.

Deb Sykes, Port Phillip Emergency Climate Action Network (PECAN) and St Kilda West resident
I really encourage you to vote for Rhonda. I’ve worked with her on projects dear to my heart: investigating support for a community battery for Port Phillip, developing assistance for people to get off gas and supporting community climate education. And Rhonda is fantastic. She has a clear mind, a deep understanding of how Council works and a determination to get good things done; all of which really impress me.

Bill McKenzie, renters’ advocate and resident of Layfield Court public housing tower, Albert Park
I support Rhonda for Albert Park Ward because of her social justice values. She will represent everyone, not just the wealthy. Rhonda is a great advocate for secure and affordable housing and will champion the rights of all of us who rent our homes.

Claire Byrne, St Kilda West resident and President, Elwood Children’s Centre
Rhonda Small is the voice we need on Council. A long time Port Phillip resident. A genuine champion for true community. Rhonda works tirelessly for progressive action in many local groups. I have personally had the benefit of her generosity of expertise and spirit in fighting for community-run childcare within the city in 2022.

Dr Bill Garner, historian, author, playwright and formerly Secretary, Save Brookes Jetty
Rhonda will bring to the job exactly the skills you want of your Councillor. She is deeply engaged with the local community, she understands the problems, she comes up with solutions and she gets things done. She is kind, attentive, and dogged. The delightful community-generated Musical Balconies* is just one example of her capacity to imagine new possibilities.”

* Musical Balconies was a one-day local festival held in May 2021 on the balcony and garden of two residences on St Kilda Esplanade. It was organised by a few residents to cheer up locals and passers-by during Covid – and importantly, to pay local musicians properly for taking part.

Professor Lisa Amir, former academic colleague and Albert Park resident
In her role as an academic leader, Rhonda was always responsive and compassionate towards staff,
students and community members. She is hard-working, smart and honest, and I highly endorse her as a potential councillor for Albert Park Ward.

Angela Nordlinger, Middle Park resident for 30 years, retired barrister. Unlike other candidates for Albert Park Ward, Rhonda has been engaged in advocating for our community for years. In the eighties she was part of Turn the Tide, a residents’ movement to elect councillors who would stand up for residents and protect the foreshore from over-development. She has fought for keeping our services in public and community hands.  Her professional life over  three decades as a public health researcher uniquely qualifies her to be a local councillor. She is not seeking a stepping stone for a further political career. Rhonda knows and cares about our community. She has earned our trust. Let’s make her our new councillor for Albert Park Ward.
